In the Resident Evil franchise, the pharmaceutical corporation, Umbrella, creates a virus that turns its victims into zombies. Within a few years, most of human civilisation had been infested with zombies, decimating mankind.

So, why did Umbrella do this? What did the company's CEO, Albert Wesker, have to gain by causing society to collapse? Even if you played the games and watched the films, it's hard to say. But if you actually break down Wesker's plan step-by-step... it actually makes less sense than you thought.

Wesker's team wanted to collect Earth's resources, wipe out most of humanity with the virus, and then restart civilisation again. Basically, it's like Noah's ark, but with zombies.

Now, since the pathogen has the nasty side-effect of destroying Earth's ecosystem and mutating all forms of life into uncontrollable, man-eating monsters, you'd think Wesker would abandon his crusade. Instead, the smug chairman carries on as if it's all going to plan. Even after he infects himself with the T-virus, forcing him to experience a craving for human flesh, he still thinks he's saving the world, even though he's clearly destroying it.
