10 Terrible Horror Movies That Are Actually Awesome
8. Pieces (1982)
The problems with this Spanish-American slasher have been well documented; an exploitation film with all the subtly of a brick and some queasy sexist undertones, its overall bleakness and extremity can be a lot to take.
But the fact is Pieces is still an exciting little exercise in the slasher film subgenre, slipping into its absurdism and on-the-nose scares with so much confidence it's hard not to be taken in by its strangeness, especially if you're after a mindless slasher with an equal helping of surreal laughs and horrid kills.
Sure, it's tough to forgive its obviously cruel treatment of its female characters -- this is shock horror at its finest (or worst, depending on how you look at it) -- but Pieces is still dumb and bizarre enough to make for an entertaining watch.
The kind of cult gem that's so bad it's good, Pieces is definitely a film worth digging up, if only out of morbid curiosity.
