10 Terrible Horror Movies That Are Actually Awesome
4. Devil (2010)
The plot is simple: A group of strangers enter an elevator, and then find themselves haunted and killed by the Devil after it breaks down.
Claustrophobic and bleak, the horror was written by M. Night Shyamalan, and features as many rug pulls as the director's other, more successful works. Relying on tension and a brisk, 80-minute runtime, Devil moves through these twists and its high body count to create an effective little mystery.
It's a B-movie through-and-through, no doubt, and whilst its mostly one-note characters and eventually obvious ending let it down somewhat, there's something genuinely refreshing about a low-concept horror not forcing itself to be deeper than what it actually is.
Devil is silly and not entirely original, but it's scares and discomforting premise are executed with exactly the right amount of energy as you'd hope from a leave-your-brain-at-the-door horror flick.
