10 Terrible Horror Movies That Are Actually Awesome

5. Jason X (2001)

The Friday the 13th franchise has never claimed to be anything more than an over-the-top piece of escapism, especially its first two brilliant instalments, and Jason X is living proof of just how ridiculous and entertaining the series can be.

Another case of so bad it's good insanity, this sci-fi sequel finds Jason Voorhees cryogenically frozen, and then let loose on a futuristic world... where he's also turned into a cyborg, because why not?

Leaning into the increasing weirdness and implausibility the franchise had been perfecting over the last few years, Jason X's B-movie inspirations and surprisingly self-aware execution leads to a lot of great kills and a thrilling pace, which both lead to a high body count and silly character interactions.

Moving a killer as immortal and bloodthirsty as Jason Voorhees into space was, in hindsight, inevitable, and though the film is abysmal in almost every way, its awareness makes it a great little slasher.
