10 Terrible Movies That Got ONE Thing Right
1. The Expendables - Mickey Rourke's Monologue About Guilt And Regret
The Expendables series is the culmination of a bunch of creatives who no doubt wondered if Rambo could beat Matrix from Commando, or if Ronda Rousey could hold her own with male counterparts, or if Dolph Lundgren could actually recite dialogue.
The primary draw of the films are their mix of young and old action icons, and, admittedly, it is pretty cool seeing action stars from the '80s, '90s, and '00s mix it up while lots of cool military vehicles rip around stereotypical action movie locales and lots of things blow up.
However, in the first Expendables, there is a scene that truly comes out of nowhere.
Mickey Rourke plays the team's gadget and weapons guru, Tool. At one point, Tool told a tale of his time with the military in Bosnia when he drunkenly watched a woman commit suicide. He failed to take any action to save her, and has carried that guilt ever since. He often thinks back and wonders if he had saved her, if it may have also saved him.
It was a jarring moment in the film and a damn fine monologue by Mickey Rourke, who proved he still has his acting chops when the need arises.
