10 Terrible Recent Movies With ONE Redeeming Scene
2. Krampus' Lair - Red One
Red One may be a shockingly soulless holiday romp, but at least it came to life during the spirited Krampus sequence, which boasted some legitimately Oscar-worthy makeup and a game performance from Kristofer Hivju - neither of which the movie seemed to really deserve.
Mid-way through the film, Santa Claus' (J.K. Simmons) head of security Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson) teams up with hacker Jack O'Malley (Chris Evans) to visit Santa's adoptive brother Krampus (Hivju) in the hope of finding out where a kidnapped Santa is.
Here Krampus is depicted like less of a monster and more of a hilariously boorish hedonist, enough that he's goaded into a game of "Krampusschlap" - basically a slap fight - with Callum.
Given how much of the movie is slathered in gaudy, garish CGI, it's just nice to see a creature brought to life primarily with practical effects and one hell of a great performance. And it's fun seeing him slap the blue hell out of The Rock, too.
