10 Things Harry Potter Fans Probably Didn't Know About Voldemort
4. His First Job Was At Borgin And Burke's
Not every magical item in the wizarding world is a whimsical artefact that can help the user with a problem they're having or just offer them a bit of fun. Some of them have been imbued with dark magic and, for the right price, these sinister objects can be bought and sold. And one of the most infamous places to do this is at Borgin and Burke's, just off Diagon Alley.
Fans will remember that Harry Potter accidentally ended up here due to a floo powder mishap early on in The Chamber of Secrets and caught Lucius Malfoy selling some illicit poisons to the proprietor, Borgin. And if we go back in history a few decades, we'll find that the Dark Lord was once an employee of the shadowy establishment.
This choice of career disappointed his former teachers, as he had been tipped for a position at the Ministry of Magic. But Voldemort was secretly using the connections he made here to further progress his studies into the Dark Arts. He was also quite adept at getting wizards to part with their possessions, a skill that would come in handy later down the line.
