10 Things That Make No Sense About Star Wars Sequels
6. What Happened To DJ?
He may have been something of an afterthought in The Last Jedi, but the shifty, greedy, self-preserving slicer DJ was an important player in the film nonetheless. Picked up by Finn and Rose in a Canto Bight holding cell, DJ's apathetic demeanour, disparaging personality, and general cockiness built up the theme that most people in the galaxy understand that the only way to benefit from the constant cosmic wars is to play on both sides and always put their own interests first.
His betrayal wasn't unexpected but was still frustrating and all viewers had to look forward to with him was his inevitable comeuppance. He's never shown escaping the wreckage of Snoak's flagship, but given how crafty he was and considering that most of the other major characters managed to escape, it stood to reason he was still out there somewhere with his ill-gotten-gains.
But then he just never showed up in The Rise of Skywalker, not even in a cameo appearance. There was even a perfect opportunity to include him in Kijimi. Instead of a pointless, throwaway, will-they-won't-they romance between Zorii and Poe, they could have just had DJ be his old smuggling mentor. They reconnect, Finn takes issue with how he and DJ left things, conflict ensues. But no, J.J. was happy to just let him fall off the map for reasons unknown.
