10 Things To Expect From Upcoming DCEU Movies
3. Flashpoint Is Used To Reboot Parts Of The DCEU
One of the more surprising and interesting reveals from this year's Comic-Con was that The Flash's planned solo movie has been renamed Flashpoint, and will be adapted from the acclaimed 2011 comic of the same name.
While it's basically a given that the DCEU version will be a loose, spiritual adaptation at best considering that some things simply wouldn't translate well to the big screen, the fact that the storyline involves alternate universes and a major rewriting of the DC Universe is incredibly significant.
The point here is that Flashpoint could be the DCEU's secret weapon, a tool with which to re-write elements of the franchise that aren't working.
This could be an easy way to recast Lex Luthor after the generally negative response to Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal, and if Ben Affleck really is on the way out, the newly-established timeline at the end of Flashpoint could neatly feature a new actor in the role.
X-Men: Days of Future Past proved how time travel can be cleverly used to partially ret-con a movie universe, and if Flashpoint follows along the same lines, it could press the reset button on any existing narratives or characters that have flopped with audiences.
