10 Things We'd Love To See In Star Trek Into Darkness Sequels

9. The Borg

The reinvention of the Klingons made the warrior race an even more menacing sight. Imagine what the Federation€™s fiercest enemy, The Borg, could be turned into in this reboot. The cyborg-like race attempts to incorporate the biological and technological distinctiveness of all other races into their own, adapting their technology to defeat conventional weaponry. This alien threat is capable of damaging Starfleet; In The Next Generation and Voyager the Borg were one of the scariest and most threatening of enemies faced by the protagonists. The ability to adapt to weaponry means that it takes creative thinking to defeat them... the sort of thinking Captain Kirk seems to be renowned for. The Borg have already been featured in a Star Trek film in First Contact, which saw Patrick Stewart€™s crew forced to go back in time to defeat The Borg€™s attempt to prevent Earth€™s first contact with the Vulcans. This film was arguably the best of The Next Generation films, showing Captain Picard€™s savagery and turning Patrick Stewart from a Thespian legend to an action hero of sorts. The haunting voice of The Borg telling us that 'resistance is futile' would not go amiss in this universe - it would give Kirk's crew a threat independent of The Original Series meaning fans cannot predict the outcome. We have already seen how Khan was awakened by Marcus early due to Nero€™s arrival, so what is to say that the Borg€™s arrival in the Alpha Quadrant will not be expedited by the time travel events of 2009€™s Star Trek? The Borg from First Contact were certainly scary, so with a few more prosthetic improvements and a creative touch, these villains could easily be updated to become the primary threat in this new universe.
