10 Things You Need To Know About J.J. Abrams' Superman: Flyby

3. Superman Is Killed

Speaking of which - and in a strange move for a film that was supposed to spark off a new series, presumably - Superman was also going to be killed off during the events of Flyby. It made sense (kind of) when Tim Burton was working on a Man Of Steel flick, since The Death (And Return) Of Superman comic was fairly contemporary. J.J. Abrams was writing his script in the early noughties, however, so presumably the reason he was going to bump off his star was to highlight those Christ parallels that Snyder's film handled oh-so-subtley. Although, from the looks of it, it could've been much worse. In Flyby, Superman defeated the evil Kryptonians (piloting a giant mech), but died from being stabbed with a shard of Kryptonite. Simultaneously, Jor-El has committed ritual suicide in a Kryptonian jail. They meet in Kryptonian Heaven and then Superman comes back somehow. This is the man making the new Star Wars, FYI.
