10 Things You Need To Know About James Cameron's Spider-Man

7. Or Else Doc Ock, Played By Arnie

Arnie Doc Ock That was the plan in Cameron's revised scriptment, anyway. Before he was brought on board, there were a load of other drafted screenplays, which he drew on in some ways. At first he was developing a version of the script Carolco already had, which had no Electro or Sandman to be seen. Instead, the film was to focus on Doctor Octopus, the literally-named villain with the metal arms fused to his skin during a tragic accident. Eventually Alfred Molina made the role his own in Spider-Man 2, a character actor of some reupte; Carolco, meanwhile, had Arnold Schwarzenegger in line. Eventually Arnie got his crack at a comic book supervillain as Mr Freeze in the truly awful Batman & Robin, so perhaps it was for the best he didn't make it into Spider-Man. Then again, Cameron has got some of the best performances out of the guy between True Lies and Terminator. So who knows?
