10 Things You Need To Know About Top Gun: Maverick
5. The Cast
Besides the two veteran Top Gun actors, there are a number of fresh and well-known faces that will make an appearance in the film.
First, there's the man who is meant to keep Maverick in line. Vice Admiral Cyclone is to be played by Jon Hamm and seems like the kind of guy you don't want to upset. From what we can see in the trailer, he isn't a fan of Maverick and his reputation so we'll be sure to see these two butting heads throughout the story.
The voice that can be heard in the trailer obviously belonged to Ed Harris, but his role in the film is yet to be revealed. As for Maverick's love interest, it seems that he has since moved on from Charlie and on to the lovely Jennifer Connelly. It’s unclear as to how serious the relationship is, but she does feature quite a bit in the trailer as the Captians's voice of reason and the passenger on his motorbike.
Making a return to the screen on behalf of his film-father Goose, Miles Teller will be playing the role of Bradley Bradshaw. His part in the movie will most likely take up a majority of the storyline as there is some unfinished business concerning Maverick and his late father. Be prepared to have your heartstrings tugged at with this one. The snippets of their interactions in the film seem to be very emotional and powerfully performed by the young actor
One face that will be returning to the Top Gun franchise is Val Kilmer. Well-known frenemy to Maverick, Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, appears to have worked his way up to Navy Admiral and is the one who requested Maverick be brought back for the mission.
The trailer may not have given away much, but it did reveal that there would be a funeral at some point. Some fans of the franchise are worried that the Iceman may be the one to meet a cold fate, but either way, someone important is going to die.
