10 Times Actors Had ZERO Idea What Movie They Were Making

8. Bill Murray – Garfield

After Lost in Translation revitalised Bill Murray's career, everyone was curious to see what Oscar-worthy feature the legendary comedian would appear in next.

That's why we fans were surprised to learn the Ghostbusters star's next role was as Garfield in a live-action adaptation. Although the lazy, Monday-hating kitty is hugely popular, it seemed like a step down for Murray to star in an underwhelming comedy after working with acclaimed director, Sofia Coppola. So, what gives?

According to Murray's Reddit AMA, he accepted Garfield after skimming Joel Cohen's script, since he was desperate to work with the Coen brothers. Unfortunately, Murray didn't realise Joel Cohen had no connection with Ethan and Joel Coen whatsoever until he already accepted the role.

Now, that's not suggesting Joel Cohen is devoid of talent. (He was one of the screenwriters for Toy Story.) But considering his CV is composed of stinkers like Daddy Day Care and Evan Almighty, the bad clearly outweighs the good.

By the time Murray recognised his error, he was contractually obligated to star in Garfield. Even though it sounds like a mistake anyone could make, Murray could've avoided this blunder by asking why the directors of Fargo and The Big Lebowski would make a movie about a cat who eats lasagne??
