10 Times Movies Unexpectedly Spawned An Animated Series
3. Clerks: The Animated Series
Following in the same vein as the likes of Rambo, the R-rated cult classic Clerks received the animated series treatment.
However, unlike its fellow cartoon brethren, this show did not arrive in the immediate wake of the original movie's success. It actually arrived a full six years after Clerks landed on the silver screen.
It was also unexpectedly produced with Disney Television Animation - not the kind of studio you'd expect behind a show like this.
Unlike the likes of Rambo and Beetlejuice, Clerks: The Animated Series was created to be an adult cartoon, a refreshing respite that came at a time when adult animated was on the rise. However, despite being created by Kevin Smith, the show was incredibly short-lived. There were only six episodes made, and only after two of them aired was it unceremoniously cancelled. It probably didn't help when they originally aired that ABC showed the episodes out of order.
Thankfully for fans of the Viewaskew Universe, as of 2020, Smith has been on record as saying a reboot could be on the cards. Snoochie Boochies baby.
