10 Totally Unnecessary Movie Sequels That Everybody Wants Anyway

4. 23 Jump Street

The hilarious end credit sequence inherent to 22 Jump Street set out to showcase - with a huge dollop of premium relish - how ridiculous it would be for the studio behind this rebooted film franchise to embark on a third (or fourth, or fifth, or sixth...) installment. And it would. It really, really, really would. And yet, don't folk kind of want to see it anyway? Yes, given that the central gag crucial to the original 21 Jump Street came in its approach to making fun of unnecessary movie reboots, and that the point of 22 Jump Street was to make fun of unnecessary sequel movies, there wouldn't really be anywhere else for the meta-jokes to go should a third movie find its way into existence. But Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum share such good chemistry and the last two movies were so only the money that you feel like they could come up with an idea to power a third movie - there has to be something that the writers could say about a sequel to sequel, right? So whilst there is no reason for 23 Jump Street to happen (like, ever), it's still a shame to see this series die. Likelihood? "I don't know if that joke works three times, so we'll see," said Channing Tatum, and yet - against the odds - there are plans to actually put this movie into production. Huh?
