10 Trailers That Completely Mis-Sold The Movie

1. Alien 3

It€™s a well documented story of how Alien 3 went through multiple drafts and ideas before first time feature director David Fincher took the reins, only for 20th Century Fox to interfere consistently leaving an incredibly fractured movie that failed terrible in matching the high expectations the previous two entries in the series had created. But it€™s testament to just how tortured a production it was that Fox went as far as releasing a teaser trailer advertising a film so different from the final product. The reason this trailer tops the list is because it actually really good. Watching it now, over two decades on knowing how disappointing the final product was, it€™s still hard not to get stoked for the film. It tantalisingly mimics the original Alien, using the same eerie music and title reveal, but twists it with the slow pan now vertical and the subject being the instantly recognisable xenomorph egg. Playing on the €˜no one can hear you scream€™ tagline, the voiceover is chilling and promises a real twist to the series; we will finally get to see the future version of Earth. What an exciting promise €“ seeing a world dominated by Weyland-Yutani, slowly destroyed by the perfect organism. It€™s a real curio, notable for both its quality and just how far from the final product it actually is. Unless of course the trailer€™s line €˜on Earth, everyone can hear you scream€™ was in fact referring to the audiences reactions, shocked by the mundanity of a franchise reduced to a boring mess. In which case, well played Fox. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk_x9W1xKng
