10 Unbelievable Sports Stories Hollywood Should Turn Into Movies
7. Rosie Ruiz "Wins" The Boston Marathon
Pitch: Run Fatboy Run meets All The Presidents Men Cuban-born runner Rosie Ruiz qualified for the 1980 Boston Marathon after running the 1979 New York City Marathon in just under three hours. However, questions arose after she was the first woman to cross the finish line in Boston. Her time was the fastest for a woman in Boston Marathon history, and it was nearly a half-hour shorter than her New York time six months prior an extremely unlikely improvement. She demonstrated little knowledge of the course, did not appear winded when she crossed the finish line, and did not possess the body typical of a high-level marathon runner. Furthermore, none of the official spotters had seen her in the lead. An investigation found that not only did Ruiz apparently slip into the Boston Marathon in the final half-mile, but an eyewitness from New York claimed Ruiz had only gotten such a high time in the New York City Marathon because she rode the subway for most of the course! While recreating the Marathon itself wouldnt make for a good movie (especially since Ruiz didnt actually run it), the investigation could be turned into an intriguing drama.
