10 Unbelievable Sports Stories Hollywood Should Turn Into Movies

6. Barbados Football Team Scores Against Itself On Purpose, Still Wins Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThpYsN-4p7w Pitch: The Game of Their Lives meets Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story The 1994 Caribbean Cup saw perhaps the oddest end to a football match in the history of the beautiful game. In a match against Grenada, Barbados had to win by two goals in order to advance in the tournament. However, Barbados was leading 2-1 with only minutes left in regulation and another goal against Grenada seemed unlikely. Since the tournament€™s bizarre rules specified that goals in sudden death extra time would count double, Barbados purposely scored on its own goal to the tie the game. Grenada actually attempted to score on its own goal to untie the game and secure advancement, but Barbados successfully defended both goals to send the game into penalties, which Barbados eventually won. Not surprisingly, the so-called "golden rule" was excised from Caribbean Cup rules after the 1994 tournament ended. Many sports movies come down to one team needing to win in the final seconds. Imagine the twist of that team having to score against itself and then defend its opponent's goal as well! It's such a strange scenario that it would make for an unpredictable climax for those who didn€™t know how the real-life game ended.
