7. Leatherface
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series has the most tangled timeline in all of cinema; there was the original movie followed by three sequels, which mostly ignored each another. Then there was a remake in 2003, and later on a prequel to that remake. Then there was the rebootquel Texas Chainsaw 3D, which was a sequel to the original and ignored everything else.
Now to add even more confusion is Leatherface, which is a prequel to the original that may or may not ignore the last film. The most exciting thing about the movie is that it’s being directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, who directed the quite brilliant French horror movie Inside. With them in charge, Leatherface promises to be a long overdue return to form for the series, which hasn’t had a decent entry in a long time.
They’ll bring some visual style and a visceral intensity to it, and if nothing else it will be a damn sight better than the last prequel they attempted.
