10 Underrated Action Films You Have To Watch

8. Hard Target (1993)

The Rundown
Universal Pictures

Any action fan will know that the work of director John Woo is usually fantastic. Equally, they will also know that Jean-Claude Van Damme is hit and miss. The two working together ended up being a hit and it is well worth a watch, despite being one of the more frequently forgotten films of Van Damme and Woo respectively.

Sporting a mullet, Van Damme plays Chance Boudreaux a former marine. Chance is enlisted, by a mourning daughter, to take down a hunting ring that chases down and kills homeless veterans. As ridiculous as the concept may sound, Hard Target provides plenty of action and some intrigue as the rich hunters try to throw Boudreaux off their scent.

The fight scenes are shot fantastically and showcase the legitimate skills of Van Damme. On top of that, the explosions and leaps from moving vehicles are done in the typically jaw-dropping John Woo style.
