7. Circle

What's It About? Circle opens in a shadowy, ominously-lit room, as fifty strangers discover they're the subjects of somebody's twisted game.

They're killed off one by one, before being forced to choose the one person within this diverse group who deserves to stay alive.

Why You Should Watch It: Circle takes place in a single location, but fortunately, that location doesn't get old, or tiring.

Like Buried, Phone Booth and 127 Hours, the limited environment is used effectively. As people begin to die, the number of bodies onscreen starts to thin, and the camera is able to slot into brand-new places and find angles it couldn't have done before.

This means that the movie becomes more and more interesting as it progresses, and that's not without mentioning the constantly increasing hysteria among the remaining survivors.

Because, as the body count increases, each individual becomes more desperate. They begin targeting old people, sick people and black people. Circle finely dissects the lengths people will go to when the chips are down, and it should be commended for attempting to explore such grotesque material.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
