4. The Invitation
What's It About? A man is invited to a dinner party at his old home, where he starts to suspect his ex-wife and her new husband have something disturbing planned for their group of guests.
Why You Should Watch It: The Invitation is a rather slow burn - there's a plot twist that doesn't occur until the film is almost over - but the way everything unravels, with subtle visual and story cues, is incredibly engaging.
It's the movie version of a jigsaw, compelling you to slide all the pieces into place before the full picture is finally revealed.
Unlike so many other horror flicks that are hard to rewatch because the shock factor is lost or the twist has already been unveiled, The Invitation rewards repeat viewings. The final shot is to thank for this, a glorious "OMG" moment that will cause you to view the entire movie in a different light.
It's supremely well-acted - Game of Thrones fans will recognize Michael Huisman, and Logan Marshall-Green, of Prometheus fame, plays the lead - and elegantly shot. If you can remain invested throughout the slower-paced opening two acts, you'll find that the third pays everything off in a satisfying fashion.
