10 Unintentionally Funny Moments In Harry Potter

5. Karkaroff’s Prolonged Stares – The Goblet Of Fire

Igor Karkaroff – the Headmaster of the Durmstrang Institute – comes over as rather pathetic in the movie adaptation of The Goblet of Fire. He doesn’t have any interesting dialogue and his primary role is to dote over his favourite student.

Indeed, the most memorable part of his time at Hogwarts is his prolonged stares. During his very first meal at Hogwarts, he gives Snape a long look whilst the pair of them are at the staff table which feels completely out of place given the light-hearted tone of the rest of the scene.

Towards the end of the film, Harry stumbles across Karkaroff and Snape having a heated discussion in the latter’s store cupboard. When Karkaroff sees Harry, he walks off and gives such a hateful and prolonged glare it’s hard not to burst out laughing.

As such, the movie version of Karkaroff feels more like a pantomime villain than a genuine threat.
