1. Star Wars: Rogue One
Having acquired the rights to the Star Wars universe it was hardly likely that the company would sit back and rely solely on the sequels to the existing canon to maximise their profits, and sure enough before long they announced their intention to produce additional spin-off movies under the banner of the Star Wars Anthology. The first of the Anthology movies coming to cinemas is Star Wars: Rogue One, set during the period between the end of the prequels and the beginning of the original trilogy. The story revolves around a group of rebels as they attempt to steal the plans for the first Death Star, so while this is the first stand alone film continuity with the wider universe is clear. Spin-off movies hardly have a great reputation for being on a par with their sources, but Star Wars: Rogue Squadron will clearly benefit from the talent both in front of and behind the camera. Gareth Edwards, fresh off the visually impressive (if long-winded) Godzilla is directing, while recent breakthrough star Felicity Jones is set to star.
