10 Upcoming Horror Movies That Aren't What You Think
6. It's A Magnolia-Esque Horror Epic - Weapons
The marketing for Zach Cregger's sophomore feature Weapons has been absolutely fantastic so far, focusing more on vibes and less on the particulars of its story in a manner similar to Longlegs' hugely successful marketing campaign last year.
While we know that the film revolves around the disappearance of 17 children from the same class overnight - an inherently creepy premise if there was one - insider reports indicate that Cregger's new picture is considerably more ambitious than it might at first seem.
Early word on Weapons has compared it to Paul Thomas Anderson's ensemble epic Magnolia, of all things, which is a film Cregger himself has cited as a direct inspiration.
This isn't to say that Weapons is just pretending it's a horror movie - early social media reactions confirm it absolutely is - but that Zach Cregger has made something bigger and more sprawling than the marketing directly suggests.
Basically, expect to be surprised.
