10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Are Really Reboots
6. The Girl In The Spider's Web
Even though David Fincher's 2011 English-language adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was met with strong acclaim upon release, a lukewarm box office reception and difficulties getting a satisfactory script together meant that the planned The Girl Who Played with Fire sequel never went ahead.
It was announced late last year that Don't Breathe director Fede Alvarez would helm an adaptation of The Girl in the Spider's Web, the fourth book in the Millennium series.
Without David Fincher's unique directorial style or any of the original cast members, though, this is clearly a second attempt to build a hit franchise around an English-speaking Lisbeth Salander, rather than a sequel in the same continuity.
If the budget is a little more sensible this time (the Fincher movie cost a ludicrous $90 million), it just might work.
