10 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Aren't What You Think
5. Spider-Man 3 ISN'T Starring The Sinister Six
MAJOR SPOILERS will follow for Spider-Man: Far From Home...
For many fans, it's simply been a foregone conclusion that the MCU Spider-Man films would be building towards a Sinister Six-starring event film, what with Homecoming introducing audiences to Vulture (Michael Keaton) and Scorpion (Michael Mando), and Far From Home throwing Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) into the mix.
And before Far From Home's release, it seemed like a totally reasonable deduction that Spider-Man 3 would deal with the web-slinger (Tom Holland) battling the supervillain supergroup.
Then Far From Home happened and changed everything.
For starters, neither Vulture nor Scorpion were anywhere to be seen - despite earlier reports that Michael Keaton would be appearing in the film - and given that Mysterio apparently "dies" at the end, there seems to be precious little indication of the Sinister Six forming any time soon.
The seeds would have to be sewn far more decisively in Far From Home for it to feel even remotely organic in Spider-Man 3, and so, it seems that the film will more probably follow a similar tenor to the previous films: mid-scale, lightly entertaining superhero fare that has virtually no impact on the wider MCU.
And that's no bad thing, but fans committed to the next movie having Spidey battling the Sinister Six should probably get used to the prospect of that not happening.
