8. Harley Quinn Is The Villain - Joker: Folie a Deux
The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux did a fantastic job selling the audience on the dynamic between Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) and fellow Arkham Asylum inmate Harleen Quinzell aka Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga), though some fans think the film is going to make some seriously subversive deviations from their established dynamic.
Historically in the comics, The Joker has manipulated and abused Harley throughout their relationship, yet it feels like a filmmaker as provocative as Todd Phillips will take a different angle, instead flipping the comic book portrayal, such that Harley is the one abusing Arthur and encouraging him to embrace the Joker persona he's seemingly trying to escape.
More to the point, Harley could very well end up being the movie's ultimate antagonist, with Arthur perhaps being pushed to return to his ultraviolent ways in order to take her down once and for all. It'd certainly fit the tragic, doomed romantic vibes the trailer is giving off.
