10 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Getting Oscar Buzz
7. Coco
Pixar has undeniably been going through a little bit of a slump, creatively speaking. They've been putting out a few too many sequels lately to be fairly considered a studio firing on all cylinders. But there's reason for hope.
In a lot of ways, Coco seems like a return to all of the fundamentals that made Pixar great in the first place. It's the story of a Mexican boy who secretly dreams of becoming a famous guitarist.
There's only one problem: his family has had a ban on music that has lasted over a generation, and its origins are shrouded in mystery. (Will the film's hero Miguel learn some family secrets through a series of wacky misadventures while vacationing in the Land of the Dead? Undoubtedly.)
It will be directed by Lee Unkrich, the man who created Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc, so the movie looks like it should be in great hands. There's also an interesting and talented voice cast, which includes Benjamin Bratt and Gael Garcia Bernal.
Above all else, though, Coco seems like a strong, family-oriented film with a lot of heart, as you'd probably expect from Pixar.
