The Elevator Pitch: Sylvester Stallone is a retired superhero in this brutal, bloody action-thriller.

At 75 years of age, you'd think that Sylvester Stallone would be starting to slow things down a bit. Yet, as evidenced by his current output, he's doing anything but.

Despite being involved in The Suicide Squad, Expendables 4, and Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, Samaritan might be the most exciting project he's got on his docket right now, with the film reportedly being one of the best things shown at CinemaCon 2021.

From director Julius Avery - helmer of the criminally-underrated Overlord - Samaritan offers a wildly different take on the superhero genre, with Stallone's super-powered Stanley Kominski living in retirement after a tragic event several decades prior.

The film's action has been described as "bone-crunching and badass", placing it far, far away from the family-friendly fun of the MCU. Watching Stallone wreck shop is always a good time, but dialling up the bloody action by giving him super-powers is sure to make Samaritan one of the craziest movies he's done in decades.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
