9. The Tomorrow War

It's actually bizarre how little we've heard about The Tomorrow War, because it has a killer cast, a great concept, and a prime end-of-year release date, with Paramount slating it for Christmas 2020.

Originally titled Ghost Draft (which is a far better name, but we don't make the big decisions), the movie revolves around a futuristic war between humanity and aliens - a war that humanity is losing. So, in a last-ditch effort to turn the tide, scientists devise a way to recruit soldiers from the past, drafting them in to fight in the present day.

It sounds like it has shades of Tom Cruise's Edge Of Tomorrow, another sci-fi action flick about a humans-versus-aliens battle that also had a better original title (All You Need Is Kill). On the surface, the idea of bringing people from the past to fight in the future is a terrific one, and it would be especially cool if these soldiers were from the Victorian era or something similar, and must learn how to fight with modern weaponry.

Plus, with Chris Pratt starring (and exec producing), Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) directing, and J.K. Simmons in a supporting role, The Tomorrow War sounds like it has all the makings of a highly entertaining blockbuster, on top of its nifty core premise.
