10 Video Game Movies That Were Truly Terrible
1. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
The sequel to a film that gained middling to negative reviews, many saw Mortal Kombat: Annihilation as an opportunity to improve on its predecessor.
This did not happen.
The film had a host of issues from a changing cast, an uninspired plot and effects that worsen with every year that goes by. While there are not many fans who would have expected a heart-wrenching tale - in fact, many would rather see a heart pulling one - the action scenes were a key element that let this film down.
Most fans left the cinema wondering why everyone was fighting and what had happened in the effects department that led to the catastrophic blocky green screen scenes.
MK Annihilation was a financial and critical disaster, and plans for a sequel were quickly scrapped in an attempt to not add insult to a fatality. Despite this, it seems that the series may have one last chance.
A reboot of the Mortal Kombat film series is scheduled for 2021, and while hopes won't be too high after the universally panned Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, it can't be much worse.
At least for video game films as a whole, the only way was up after this box office bomb.
