5. Cannibal Ferox (1982) - From £0.79

One of the 'big three' cannibal films along with its counterparts Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Apocalypse, Cannibal Ferox really only exists to showcase animal cruelty and some pretty sensationalist gore pieces. It is not the worst film I have ever seen, but the plot is fairly dopy and convoluted. More exciting are the set pieces: Evil Westerners shamelessly abusing the beleaguered natives whilst high on cocaine. A Western bloke, who is bleeding, hides in a waterpool but is flushed out by pirhanas, forced out into the open and killed by the natives with a poison dart. Giovanni Lombardo Radice gets his penis cut off, eaten in front of him, escapes into the jungle, gets recaptured and gets his right hand cut off. One of the women gets hooks through her breasts while the other one watches her bleed to death The one remaining woman writes a book denying that cannibalism exists - what more proof could she want that it does exist?? This totally daft assertion spoils the movie just a tad (in the manner of the infamous last line of Cannibal Holocaust - "I wonder who the real savages are?" - just lame). If Cannibal Ferox sounds like your kind of movie, I couldn't recommend the cheapo DVD in all good conscience. It is a butchered confusing piece of meat. Seek out the Region 1 or European uncut versions of the film so you can at least soak up some fairly decent gore and indulge your cannibal mania.
