10 Ways The Marvel Multiverse Could Kill The MCU

2. No One Seems To Know How The Rules Work

Avengers: Endgame director Joe and Anthony Russo (obviously) worked closely with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on their Marvel Studios movies, but things got weird after the record-breaking blockbuster arrived in cinemas last year.

The Russo Brothers maintained that Captain America travelled back in time to another world, living his life with Peggy Carter before returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to present Sam Wilson with that repaired shield. Markus and McFeely, meanwhile, had a completely different take on the matter.

They argued that Steve Rogers simply travelled back in time and then made sure he was on the bench waiting for his friends after his past self used The Hulk's time-travel machine. Confused yet?

If not even the characters integral to the MCU know how the rules work, that really doesn't bode well for future stories. In fact, it could point to Marvel Studios just making it up as they go, with the rules just suiting whatever story they tell. That's not a good way to get people invested, and could lead to a plethora of baffling continuity errors.
