Pretty much everything has been gotten the creature feature treatment over the years, including rabbits, pigs, spiders, plants, tomatoes, and snowmen. So, why not have a horror flick that centres around an evil brain?

Although there've been a few monster movies with this premise, we'll focus on a Canadian flick released in 1988, fittingly titled The Brain.

The goofy sci-fi revolves around a self-help guru called Blake who uses a man-eating brain on his talk show to control the masses. When Blake realises a high school student called Jim is immune to mind control, he and his cerebral creation do all they can to destroy him.

Despite the Brain's intimidating appearance, it has trouble getting around. (It's never explained how the menacing mind moves without legs.)

As a result, The Brain attacks the hero with hallucinations, which leads to some nifty visuals, including one scene involving a tentacle sprouting from Jim's car and strangling him. These moments only occur in Jim's head, so the rest of the ensemble are usually watching the protagonist fighting for his life against thin air.

The Brain is as cheesy as it comes, but it's thoroughly entertaining nonetheless.
