10 Worst Movie CGI Of 2019
5. Almost Everything - Aladdin
It's rather ironic that fans couldn't stop complaining about Will Smith's CGI Genie in the lead-up to Aladdin's release, given that the Genie was ultimately the best-executed aspect of pretty much the entire movie.
Even with a stonking $183 million budget, Aladdin has the stink of a low-fi panto production running all the way through it.
The sets are hilariously artificial, the costumes look like they were acquired from a fancy dress shop just before shooting started, and there's a near-total disconnect between the few human elements and the overwhelming digital production.
This is felt throughout almost every single scene in the film - especially the janky magic carpet scenes - but no worse than the climactic sequence where Aladdin (Mena Massoud) attempts to escape with the lamp from a gigantic Iago, who chases him across the rooftops of Agrabah.
Despite the film's commercial success, far too much of it devolves into a vile Vaseline smear rather than anything that could actually be called art.
