10 Worst Movies From Otherwise Great Franchises

8. Mission Impossible II - Mission: Impossible Franchise

Indiana Jones 4
Paramount

Other Films: Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible III, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout.

For a franchise that revolves entirely around Tom Cruise doing crazy stunts, Mission: Impossible is not bad at all.

Sure, the original film is pretty average (although it does have a couple of amazing set-pieces) but since then the franchise has gone from strength and improved with each new film... with one major hiccup along the way. That is 2000's disastrous Mission: Impossible II.

Despite action maestro John Woo being at the helm, MI 2 is a very weak action film that mostly lacks anything resembling a plot, making it an entirely soulless viewing experience. Bizarrely enough, the action sequences are very forgettable too, so there's not much to recommend this one.

It is enormously impressive that the franchise went from a car-crash like this to films like Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation and Fallout, which are three of the best action films of recent times and luckily for everyone involved, the overwhelming strength of most of the franchise's other films overshadows this terrible first sequel.
