3. Rambo III

What was originally a psychological examination of a Vietnam war veteran struggling to fit back into society soon transformed itself into a joke of an action series that was more interested in being anti-Communist than anything else.

The film had an extortionate body count of over 100 emphasising the relentless gratuitous violence of the film and the appalling aesthetic of the later Rambo films. The inhumane level of violence is entirely off-putting. There is nothing wrong with extreme levels of on-screen violence but when it is this gratuitous, this propagandist and this evil then a line needs to be drawn and a franchise needs to be left to die.

But of course that couldn't happen and they had to make a fourth film that was somehow even more vile and sadistic than the previous instalment. Rambo III was a hideous and cruel piece of nationalist garbage and one of the most depressing experiences you can have in a cinema.
