10 X-Men Characters Most SHAFTED By The Movies
5. Gambit
While you'll have a hard time convincing any of us at WhatCulture towers that Channing Tatum's Gambit film will ever go ahead, it's easy to see the appeal behind the character. He, like Wolverine, Cyclops, Jubilee and Storm, made a name for himself during the X-Men's golden age, appearing in both the nineties animated series and in the comic drawn by Jim Lee.
His appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was, then, a pretty big deal. Taylor Kitsch was signed on to play the part, and with the film gearing up to develop one of the most interesting backstories in the comics medium, the stage was set for the first comic book movie prequel to be a worthwhile addition to Fox's flagging X-Men franchise.
The film itself was particularly abject, but Kitsch's Gambit was one of its few redeeming features. He certainly didn't do anything wrong, boasting a short cameo in what was ultimately an overstuffed and overthought spin-off, but Fox opted not to capitalise on his appearance at all. Plans for a Gambit origin movie were shelved until Tatum resurrected the project without Kitsch, and nothing has been heard of since.
