6. James Purefoy - V For Vendetta
The character of V would be a tricky part for any actor; playing a charismatic terrorist who wears a mask for his entire appearance is an intense challenge. Hugo Weaving pulled it off exceptionally well under the circumstances, managing to create a sympathetic anti-hero who can express himself without actually changing his expression. A little known fact about the film is that actor James Purefoy was originally cast as V, and some of his scenes even remain in the final cut with Weaving dubbing over his voice. That's one cost saving benefit of working with an actor in a mask. Why He Was Fired: Creative differences were cited again, but it seems the working relationship between Purefoy and the director wasnt great. The producer claims his voice wasnt menacing enough while others say he hated wearing the mask all the time. Purefoy denies both stories, only going as far to say that disagreements over how the character should be played became intolerable.
