4. Riggs & Murtaugh Originally Said Goodbye Forever At The End Of Lethal Weapon

I know what you're thinking: at least if they said their goodbyes, we wouldn't have to have put up with all those sequels. To that I say a) those sequels were awesome, and I'll have no more bad words about them, and b) the whole point of Lethal Weapon is that Riggs and Murtaugh - the buddy cop duo from heaven - become best friends, and Riggs finds a reason to live again because of his new friendship. So was it a good idea to disregard this original ending? Absolutely. Yes, back at a time when a Lethal Weapon sequel wasn't even considered to be something plausible, the ending of the movie would have seen our two heroes saying farewell to one another at the climax, having put a stop to the bad guys one and for all. I'm not sure why they're suddenly no longer partners in that ending, but going down that route really would have undercut the reason for the movie's existence. Which is what director Richard Donner thought too when he insisted they shoot another ending where the duo remain friends, which was used in the final cut. Yay!
