11 Movies Too Big To Fail (That Did Anyway)
1. Waterworld
Waterworld is a movie that became famous for all the wrong reasons.
At the time of its 1995 release, Waterworld was the most expensive movie ever made, and with Kevin Costner starring - who at the time was at the peak of his Hollywood success - Waterworld seemed to be a sure thing.
At its core, it's little more than a sci-fi B-movie, and although many enjoyed it, it was unsurprisingly unable to recoup its massive budget, going down in history as a commercial failure. It also received mixed reviews, which were simply not enough to save Waterworld from the hole dug by the costs of its production.
While it has since become something of a cult classic and become marginally profitable due to post-cinema sales, the movie's tarnished reputation will never fully disappear.
Instead, Waterworld now serves as a stark reminder to studios that simply throwing endless amounts of cash at a project isn't necessarily a recipe for success.
