12 Awesome Sounding Sequels We Wish Had Happened

1. Alien 3

david fincher alien 3 David Fincher stepped into the world of moving pictures with the slightly forgettable Alien 3. A movie in the Alien franchise only surpassed in its crapiness by all installments that followed. One has to wonder what would've become of the series had any of the original Alien 3 screenplays been given the green light instead of Walter Hill and David Giler's final shooting script. There were four drafts of the Alien 3 script, each one different and uniquely awesome. Any of them would have been ten times better than what eventually made it into theaters. It's hard to pick just one of these rejected Alien 3 screenplays though I'd have to say Vincent Ward's "Wooden Monastery" is certainly a front running. Ripley's escape pod lands on a partially wooden satellite which serves as refuge for a group of monks. Of course she doesn't come alone and pretty soon those rascally aliens are up to their old tricks exploding out of chests and terrorizing everybody. Elements of this story did find their way into the final film, but not the important ones like the floating planet made of wood. Cyber punk author William Gibson was of the first to take a crack at this second squeal with a script that excluded Sigourney Weaver's character Ripley shifting the focus onto Corporal Hicks from "Aliens", and Bishop. Much like Aliens this film would have been heavily action oriented, in fact it contained eight human vs. alien battle scenes. And even set up a fourth film in which Hicks and a group known as the Union of Progressive People must track the Aliens to their homeward. After numerous re-writes Gibson was fired and Eric Red (The Hitcher, Near Dark) came on board for a film that again left Ripley out of the action. Red's version took place in a small town USA type city enclosed in a bio-dome. It would have also been the first time Alien human hybrids were seen in the series. The final Alien 3 script that was scraped was written by David Twohy and introduced the Prison Planet concept that was later used in the final draft. Though Twohy's script featured many gruesome deaths in which victims were sucked into space through a small rupture in the hull, as well as featured different Alien types. Thankfully some of these scripts can be found floating about the internet so fans can in some small way chose their own version of Alien 3 to enjoy.
