Back in the days before Infinity War and Endgame, the crossover of six heroes in 2012’s Avengers Assemble was the biggest event of its kind. The culmination of five previous movies brought together Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, in a masterpiece of storytelling and character balance.

The six main characters, joined by Nick Fury and Loki, were almost joined by another big character. Instead of waiting a further three years to introduce another female superhero, there was an early version of the script that featured Hope Van Dyne as the Wasp. Eventually cut due to concerns of overloading the movie with characters, it would have been an excellent addition to the team.

Wasp was actually a founding member of the Avengers in the comics, ahead of even Captain America, and was the one behind the name itself. It would have been a great callback to the comics to see the character as an original Avenger, and brought some much needed balance and diversity to the early MCU.

This wasn’t the only time Hope was looked over for another role. There was an idea at one point that the character would join the airport fight in Civil War, but again this was decided against. Surely, Marvel know by now that more Wasp is only a good thing, right?
