12 Brilliant Movie Scenes When Actors Weren't Acting

8. Scaring The Kids - Willy Wonka

Willy Wonka Gene Wilder
Paramount Pictures

Gene Wilder's performance in Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory will forever be remembered as the crowning achievement in a stunning career, and a good deal of that comes down to his commitment to the role, and to having an emotional impact on his young co-stars.

Wilder admitted after the film that he didn't prepare Peter Ostrum for Wonka's fury when he reprimands him for stealing Fizzy Lifting Drinks, and Ostrum's terrified reaction is testament to the success of the approach.

Wilder's apparent descent into madness in the tunnel boat scene also came as a complete surprise to the cast, and they genuinely thought he was losing his mind.
