12 Comic Book Movie Characters Who Deserved Better Deaths
6. Jean Grey (X-Men: The Last Stand)
Having appeared to have died in 2003's X2: X-Men United, Jean Grey - played by Famke Janssen - was revealed to actually have survived in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. Her survival came at a cost, however, as she had been taken over by her dark alternate personality, which was known as the Phoenix. At the end of Last Stand, the Phoenix began to unleash its power on the mutants and environment at Alcatraz. Only Wolverine - who was actually in love with Grey - was able to approach her, thanks to his healing factor. In order to end Grey's torment and the destruction being caused, he was forced to stab her - with her blessing - with his adamantium claws, killing her. This was extremely harsh. It wasn't her fault that a malevolent entity had taken over her body and, for much of her life, she had done a lot of good in the mutant community - in fact, her previous "death" had come through saving her friends from a flood - so she really deserved better than to get to a point where she was willing to be killed for the good of others.
