12 Despicable Movie Villains Who Stole Every Scene

2. Baby Jane - What Ever Happened To Baby Jane

Jack Nicholson The Departed
Warner Bros.

Sibling rivalry is a wonderful thing. That is until one of you guys too far and the other cries to their parents for help. In this case however, the once innocent and lovely Baby Jane takes things even further, choosing to psychologically and physically torment a sister she is crazily jealous of following her own fall from grace.

Nominated for Best Actress, Bette Davis performance of a former child star, now a washout who lives with her crippled sister, Blanche (Joan Crawford) is petrifying. The character is absorbing during her downward spiral throughout the film and as her jealousy and rage descend into madness, Davis is able to pray about the fear of many viewers; subverting the idea that we are safe with our loved ones.

Skilfully outwitting Blanche at every turn, it's unquestionable that Baby Jane is our key focus of the film as we are never sure when, or if, she's hiding around the corner or waiting to strike. She's cruel in her taunting of her sister, and each exchange between the two sheds new light on just how far she is willing to play the part of "evil nanny" in her own twisted version of acting.

Completely over-the-top, Davis' Baby Jane remains one of cinema's great villains and an all-timer in grabbing our attention.
