12 Incredibly Successful Movies (That Nobody Likes)

Just because everyone paid to see them that doesn't mean anyone actually liked them...

Alice In Wonderland
Disney

In recent times, box office results have been getting bigger and bigger and there are now nearly fifty members of the billion-dollar club, which was pretty tiny only a few years ago. Still, a film being enormously successful certainly doesn't always mean it was actually good or that anyone actually enjoyed it.

Of course, there are many highly successful movies that are actually awesome, but when one looks at the highest-grossing films of all time there are a surprising number of duds that no-one likes very much.

In the vast majority of cases these movies were successful because they were follow-ups to, or adaptations of, beloved material, but it's still unfortunate that so many millions of cinema-goers wasted their money on such disappointing films, not to mention that these twelve underwhelming films are among the most successful in film history.

12. Spider-Man 3

Alice In Wonderland
Columbia Pictures

Gross: $894,983,373.

Spider-Man 3 isn't improving with age and is still an epitomising example of a disappointing film.

Most of the acting in Spider-Man 3, even from talented actors like Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and Topher Grace, is terrible and it was evidently butchered by studio interference. Spider-Man 3 is positively drowning in unnecessary subplots and features not one, not two, but three underdeveloped villains. This movie just tried to do too many things at once and, aside from some great set-pieces, it never comes together at all.

Perhaps the most awful thing about Spider-Man 3 is that when Peter Parker is infected with the symbiote it doesn't truly bring out his dark side as the marketing promised. All he does is snap at people, become more arrogant and... dance through the street like an emo. Yep, that is still excruciating to watch all these years later. Who on earth thought that was actually a good idea?

In general, Spider-Man 3 is a mess and it's arguably worse than the widely-maligned The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
