2. Marion Crane (Psycho)
I'm not sure I could allow two articles on deaths that came out of nowhere, and not include the original 'shock moment' in movie history. Okay, so Janet Leighs face, frozen in perpetual terror, has become symbolic of the slasher movie genre. Okay, so everyone has scene or at least heard of the shower scene from Psycho. So whilst it will come as no surprise to anyone anymore, there was a point when it was the most shocking scene ever seen on the big screen. The audacity of Mr Hitchcock, to kill off his leading halfway through. It was almost unheard of. People thought he was mad. He believed in the shock value so much however, that he would prevent people from entering the cinema halfway through a showing of Psycho, so as to ensure that the surprise was kept. Credit to the mystery maestro that Psycho has stood the test of time and secured it's spot in the archives of movie history.
